Competency-based management and talent retention in service companies
Main Article Content
Abstract
Competency-based management constitutes a strategic approach for aligning employees’ capabilities with organizational needs and promoting their retention in service companies. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between competency-based management and human talent retention through a critical review of the literature. A qualitative, documentary, non-experimental, and exploratory study was conducted, based on the review of theoretical and empirical studies selected according to criteria of relevance, academic quality, and thematic consistency. The information was organized in an analytical matrix and examined through thematic and comparative synthesis. The findings showed that competency-based management supports retention when it promotes alignment between employees’ capabilities and job requirements, continuous learning, transparent performance appraisal, professional growth, and the coherent integration of human resource management practices. The relationship was also found to be indirect, dynamic, and conditioned by organizational factors such as leadership, recognition, fairness, and development opportunities. It is concluded that competency-based management contributes to talent retention when it moves beyond an administrative function and becomes an integrated system focused on professional development and career advancement.
